What we can do
- Take acknowledgments, where a signer confirms that a signature is their own.
- Administer oaths and affirmations and notarize sworn statements and affidavits.
- Notarize signatures on properly prepared documents such as powers of attorney, deeds, contracts, parental consent forms, and business documents when the required notarial act is permitted.
- Perform authorized notarial acts throughout Tennessee, including for customers who live outside Tennessee.
What we cannot do
- Provide legal advice, recommend legal forms, or determine whether a document protects your legal interests.
- Notarize our own signatures, a spouse’s signature, or transactions in which the notary has a disqualifying personal or financial interest.
- Complete an in-person notarization without the signer appearing before the notary or without establishing the signer’s identity.
- Backdate a notarization or certify an event that did not occur.
- Guarantee that notarization makes a document legally valid or that a receiving organization will accept it.
- Directly certify photocopies as true copies. Notarizing a document custodian’s sworn statement about a copy is a different procedure; the receiving organization must determine whether it is acceptable.
Before your appointment
Bring your complete document, acceptable identification, and any required witnesses. Please wait to sign until we confirm whether your particular notarization requires signing in our presence.
